NSW: No robvious reason for sharp increase in NSW road toll

State Premier BOB CARR says there's no clear reason for this year's disastrous holiday
toll for New South Wales, accounting for nearly 60 per cent of the nation's fatalities.

Mr CARR has urged people to take personal responsibility by not taking risks with alcohol,
driver fatigue and speed.

Mr CARR says there's no obvious explanation from the analysis for the fatalities and
no clear-cut lesson to be learned so far.

The premier's comments come as the state toll has risen to 25, 11 more than for the
same time last year.

The nation road toll for the holiday period is 44.
